We collect nationwide datasets of who and what is on the ballot for each election.

What You Get- All federal, state, and county candidates nationwide

  • All statewide referenda
  • School board, judicial, and special district races for over 90% of the country
  • Candidates' names, offices they're running for, party affiliation, and online presence

We use Open Civic Data Identifiers to tie candidates and contests to the electoral districts where they will appear on the ballot.

Since 2012, BIP data has powered election information tools for companies like Google and Facebook, helped drive forward the work of civic engagement organizations like Rock the Vote, and fueled research projects such as the Reflective Democracy Campaign. Previous BIP datasets are available for the 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 elections. We are currently publishing data for 2020 elections.
