A mobile-first civic platform connecting clients to local freelancers and cybercafés to boost youth employment and access to digital services across East Africa.

WorkKE began development in early 2025 with a mission to empower youth across Kenya and East Africa by turning digital skills into income. It is meant to be a civic platform built to connect clients to local freelancers and cybercafé operators, offering digital services like typing, printing, transcription, and document processing.

The idea was born out of the rising youth unemployment crisis and the underutilization of digital skills across low-income communities. With internet use growing rapidly in East Africa, WorkKE bridges the gap by enabling young people to earn through a mobile-first platform - no startup capital or physical infrastructure required.

WorkKE is designed for:

  1. Youth aged 18–35 with digital skills
  2. Cybercafé operators seeking digital reach
  3. Clients looking for affordable local digital services

The project is currently in its MVP ideation stage. We’ve already built the concept framework, user flows, system mockups, and business strategy.

How people can help:

  1. Contribute frontend and Firebase development support (React.js)
  2. Mentor our team to be able to support ongoing maitenance and feature improvements after the the MVP build is completed.
  3. Fund pilot activities for our Kenya pilot launch (targeting 3,000 users)

This project directly aligns with civic goals of inclusion, empowerment, and access. We welcome collaborators passionate about tech for good.
