Funded by the European Commission Directorate-General for Structural Reform Support (DG REFORM) and implemented by UNESCO, this project supports the Flemish government in implementing reforms by contributing to the improved AI-readiness and increased adoption of AI across the Flemish public administrations in a safe and ethical manner.
The 20-month project, starting in September 2024, aims to enhance the capacity of AI governance within Flemish public administrations through a comprehensive approach that includes organizational, policy, and human capacity building. Through the implementation of UNESCO’s Readiness Assessment Methodology (RAM) as well as related measures, the Flemish public administrations are assisted in adapting their AI governance frameworks and in swiftly implementing current and upcoming digital legislation, particularly the AI Act.
The project also focuses on strengthening the technical capacity required for AI projects, improving knowledge and expertise on AI-ready Information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure, including cybersecurity and data stewardship. Additionally, the project will elevate human capacity by enhancing AI awareness, literacy, and skills among public administration officials in Flanders. Through these efforts, the project aims to ensure that Flemish public administrations are well-equipped to navigate and leverage the rapidly evolving landscape of AI technology.
