An AI project uses natural language processing to identify and neutralize hate speech on community radios in eastern DRC, enhancing social cohesion and stability in conflict-affected areas by providing reliable information through adapted radio content.
This project uses AI to combat hate speech in eastern DRC. Using natural language processing (NLP - an AI tool), we monitor community radio stations in the east of the country and detect violent speech. Then, in response to the hate speech detected, we produce and broadcast adapted radio content, neutralizing this hate speech. Ultimately, this innovative project aims to reduce the impact of misinformation while strengthening social cohesion and local stability. It benefits local radio audiences and vulnerable communities affected by conflict and ethnic tensions in Ituri, North and South Kivu, by giving them access to trusted information. To achieve this, we rely on media partners and technical experts to develop a data analysis workflow based on NLP tools.
