The AI Democracy Projects engage the implications of AI systems and tools, including predictive algorithms, machine learning, and frontier models, for democratic society.
The public introduction of generative artificial intelligence (AI) highlighted the implications of these systems for society. While automated decision-making systems and predictive tools had already been demonstrated to pose myriad risks, including affecting the exercise of fundamental rights and access to basic opportunities, generative AI has the potential to exacerbate the scale and velocity of these challenges by expanding misinformation and disinformation, expanding surveillance, constraining civil liberties, and exacerbating bias and discrimination. The advent of generative AI is therefore a central concern for democracy–for advancing democratic values, securing rights and liberties, and ensuring participation in democratic society. The AI Democracy Projects engage the implications of AI systems and tools, including predictive algorithms, machine learning, and frontier models, for democratic society.
