An open-source MCP server that brings AI-powered dataset discovery to the Registry of Open Data on AWS.
AWS has launched an open-source Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for the Registry of Open Data on AWS, which hosts over 1,100 datasets from more than 400 organizations, including NASA, NOAA, NIH, and the Allen Institute. The server connects any MCP-compatible AI assistant to the full catalog, letting users search datasets, inspect metadata, browse S3 bucket contents, and sample files using natural language. It organizes these capabilities around three functions: discovery, exploration, and evaluation, turning a multi-step manual process into a single conversation. The project is available under the Apache 2.0 license on GitHub.
