South Korean fact-checking organization, supported by government during the pandemic but now shut down

Fact Check Net, a corporation, resolved to be dissolved at the extraordinary board of directors meeting on January 25, 2023, and completed the dissolution registration on February 2, 2023.

Currently, Fact Check Net, a foundation, is governed by Article 35, Paragraph 2 of the Articles of Incorporation (Residual assets after liquidation following the dissolution of this corporation shall be transferred to a non-profit corporation or national corporation with a similar purpose as this corporation with the permission of the Chairman of the Korea Communications Commission after a resolution by the Board of Directors. · We are proceeding with the dissolution and liquidation process in accordance with the provisions of “Donate to local governments.”

The remaining assets of the Fact Check Net Foundation, including the Fact Check Net platform, will be donated to the public interest non-profit corporation (Viewer Media Foundation), an auxiliary business that has supported the operating budget. The donation will be made after obtaining permission to dispose of the remaining assets from the Korea Communications Commission.

Although the Fact Check Net Foundation has unfortunately been disbanded, the significance of the process through which various experts and citizens worked together to verify and disseminate accurate information never disappears. We would like to express our deepest gratitude and support to all the fact checkers and users who have been with Fact Check Net, both inside and outside of the Fact Check Net platform. We would like to thank you once again for your support.
