Containerized Open-Source Mask Production Lines
Project Carola was meant to publicize the technical documentation for industrial production lines of surgical mask, that could fit in a standard 20″ ISO container.
By making it open-source hardware local manufacturers and public authorities worldwide could have had the chance to produce the in infrastructure for personal protective equipment (PPE) during the COVID-19-pandemic right on site and by using their own capacities.
One container had the chance to produce 50 masks/min (around 2'000'000 masks/month) and the implementation of another open-source project for FFP mask production was meant to be implemented.
The project team shut down Project Carola after the insolvency of the key industrial partner and the lack of finance to open-source its documentation. Read the statement here.
