scout is a new way to browse New York's open data portal. It focuses on data discoverability, joinability and creating curated collections of datasets that deal with a specific subject. By focusing not on agencies, or departments, scout allows you to quickly identify datasets that are related to each other and can even potentially be joined together using a common ID. Having found these collections of datasets, scout makes it easy to share your findings with others through our data collections.

NYC Open Data’s mission is Open Data for All. In order to meet that goal, we must examine our Data Dictionaries— the metadata we provide to all Open Data users. Well-written, user-friendly data dictionaries help users to become self-reliant, able to answer their own questions about a dataset without needing to contact an Open Data Coordinator for clarification. NYC Open Data partnered with the Metropolitan Library Council (METRO), Pratt Institute, Sloan Foundation, The Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City, Tiny Panther Consulting, New York Public Library, Queens Public Library and Brooklyn Public Library to implement an initiative called Metadata for All in the Summer of 2018.

Budeshi is a dedicated web platform that links budget and procurement data to various public services using the Open Contracting Data Standards (OCDS). The Budeshi platform is primarily being used to demonstrate to public institutions the utility of using uniform data standards to publish and report information across stages in the procurement value chain.

Planning4Informality is a website which acts as 'policy tracker', datatool and accountability Platform. It was designed to measure and critically assess eight South African cities' response to national targets set to upgrade 750,000 out of the total 1.2 million informal households to standards outlined in stages 2 and 3 of the Upgrading of Informal Settlements Programme (UISP), part 3 of the National Housing Code. These cities are: Buffalo City, City of Cape Town, City of Joburg, City of Tshwane, Mangaung, eThekwini, Ekurhuleni, and Nelson Mandela Bay Metro. Open Data Durban partnered with Isandla Institute to create this living tracker that enables journalists, researchers, local government, communities, and many other user groups assess where each South African metro is at in terms of housing provision and upgrading informal settlements, supporting evidence-based decision making for city housing policy.
